All businesses that handle cash will need to get ready for the introduction of the new coin, described by the Royal Mint as “the most secure coin in the world”, first to prepare for the co-circulation period, when the new and the old one-pounders will be in circulation at the same time, followed by “demonetisation”, when we bid farewell to the current £1 coin as it comes to the end of its time as legal tender."
